TESTIMONIALS
"My first session was pre-lockdown and I was a little anxious beforehand. I wanted to meet new people as I am relatively new to the local area. What I enjoy now is that it is a consistent social activity and all the guys who turn up are spot on. It's also a good opportunity to talk about mental health if I ever needed to speak out." - Oliver Ryan
"My first session was back in March time just before the lockdown period. I had seen a post advertising Kick Start FC on Facebook and thought I would give it a try. I have always enjoyed playing football and the guys who turn up are a good laugh I have enjoyed coming to the sessions. It’s also a great way to speak out if you have anything on your mind. I would totally recommend it." - Rob Yates

How do I talk about my mental health?
Putting your feelings into words is sometimes difficult. It’s perfectly normal to be worried that you might say the wrong thing or explain it badly. It’s also natural to feel anxious that your loved one or friend might think your mental health is worse than you might feel it is.
Try not to worry – talking about your mental health is incredibly important when it comes to getting the right support for you and with the right preparation the conversation can be easier than you think it might be. Here are a few tips on how to talk about your mental health.

HOME TACKLING THE MIND

WALK & TALK GROUP
Our Walk & Talk group is a friendly, welcoming space for anyone who wants to enjoy fresh air, gentle movement, and supportive conversation. Whether you’re taking the first steps toward improving your wellbeing or simply looking to connect with others, you’re warmly invited to join us. Spending time outdoors is one of the simplest ways to lift your mood. When combined with relaxed conversation and a supportive group, it becomes a powerful tool for improving mental health. There’s no pressure to talk, share, or keep up a certain pace — simply come as you are.

BOOSTS MENTAL WELLBEING
Walking is a gentle yet powerful tool for improving mental health. Moving your body increases endorphins — the “feel-good” chemicals — which can naturally reduce stress, anxiety, and low mood. Pairing movement with fresh air provides a calming break from daily pressures, helping participants feel lighter, clearer, and more grounded. Even a short walk can make a noticeable difference.

ENCOURAGES SOCIAL CONNECTION
Human connection is essential for mental wellbeing, but it can sometimes feel difficult to find. Our Walk & Talk group creates a relaxed, welcoming environment where people can meet others who understand the importance of taking care of their mental health. Conversations are friendly and informal, helping reduce feelings of isolation and offering a sense of belonging within a supportive community.

PROMOTES PHYSICAL HEALTH
You don’t need to run or work out intensely to feel the benefits of exercise. Regular walking can improve cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles, boost energy levels, and support healthier sleep. Because the group moves at a gentle, comfortable pace, it’s suitable for most fitness levels — making it an accessible way to look after both body and mind.

MAKES CONVERSATION EASIER
Walking side-by-side takes away the pressure of direct eye contact, making conversations feel more natural and less intimidating. This simple change in setting helps many people open up more freely, share their thoughts, or simply enjoy casual conversation without expectations. It creates a comfortable space for honesty, reflection, or simply enjoying shared company.

SUPPORTS ROUTINE/STRUCTURE
Mental health challenges can disrupt daily structure, making it harder to maintain positive habits. Having a regular walk each week provides a simple, supportive anchor point in the calendar — something to look forward to and rely on. Over time, this routine can help build momentum, increase motivation, and encourage people to engage more with their wellbeing.

NATURE FOR WELLBEING
Spending time outdoors is scientifically shown to reduce stress, improve concentration, and lift overall mood. Whether it’s sunshine, fresh air, birdsong, or green spaces, nature provides a calming backdrop that encourages relaxation and perspective. Even in less-than-perfect weather, being outside can offer a refreshing change of environment that helps clear the mind.
WALK & TALK GROUP - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the Walk & Talk Group?
Our Walk & Talk group is relaxed and informal. We start with a quick check-in, then head out together at a comfortable pace. Conversations flow naturally and are always confidential and supportive. You’re free to walk quietly, chat with others, or simply enjoy being outdoors — whatever feels right on the day.
Who can join?
Everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be fit, fast, or confident. You don’t need to have used our services before. Just come along and take a step toward connection and wellbeing.
How can I Join?
There’s no cost and no need to book — simply turn up. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at kickstartfc@hotmail.com.
When and where do you meet?
Our Walk & Talk group meets every fortnight on a Saturday morning and we normally agree to meet at the Ludgershall Public Car Park. For more information and updates, please give our social media pages a follow.
Is the Walk & Talk group suitable for all fitness levels?
Yes. Our walks are gentle, steady, and designed to be accessible for most people. You can walk at your own pace, and we always take breaks when needed.
How long are the walks?
We aim to walk approximately between 3-4 miles per walk at a leisurely pace to ensure that everybody involved feels the benefits of being out in nature and engaging in meaningful conversations. The timings of the walk will depend on the pace of the group.
Do I have to talk about my mental health?
Not at all. There is no pressure to share anything personal. Some people enjoy chatting, while others prefer quiet company — both are completely welcome.
What should I bring with me?
Comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and a bottle of water are usually all you need. If the weather is unpredictable, bringing a light waterproof jacket can help.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We walk in most weather conditions, but if it becomes unsafe (such as storms or extreme temperatures), we may postpone. Any updates will be shared on our website/social media.
Can I join if I am feeling anxious or nervous?
Absolutely. Many people feel nervous attending for the first time. Our group is friendly, welcoming, and completely judgement-free. You can stay close to the facilitator or keep some space — whatever feels most comfortable. If it’s your first time and you’d like to let us know you’re coming, you can contact us — but it’s not essential.

Yes. There is no cost to join the Walk & Talk group. It’s part of our commitment to making mental health support accessible to everyone.
Are dogs allowed?

Who leads the walks?
Our Walk & Talk group is led by a trained facilitator or volunteer who ensures the walk is safe, inclusive, and supportive for all participants.
