TESTIMONIALS
"My first session was pre-lockdown and I was a little anxious beforehand. I wanted to meet new people as I am relatively new to the local area. What I enjoy now is that it is a consistent social activity and all the guys who turn up are spot on. It's also a good opportunity to talk about mental health if I ever needed to speak out." - Oliver Ryan
"My first session was back in March time just before the lockdown period. I had seen a post advertising Kick Start FC on Facebook and thought I would give it a try. I have always enjoyed playing football and the guys who turn up are a good laugh I have enjoyed coming to the sessions. It’s also a great way to speak out if you have anything on your mind. I would totally recommend it." - Rob Yates

How do I talk about my mental health?
Putting your feelings into words is sometimes difficult. It’s perfectly normal to be worried that you might say the wrong thing or explain it badly. It’s also natural to feel anxious that your loved one or friend might think your mental health is worse than you might feel it is.
Try not to worry – talking about your mental health is incredibly important when it comes to getting the right support for you and with the right preparation the conversation can be easier than you think it might be. Here are a few tips on how to talk about your mental health.

KICK START FC MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WORKSHOP
Saturday 24th May 2025
As part of our Kick Start FC In The Community initiative, we are excited to be launching our very own mental health awareness workshop. The aim of this workshop is to educate people in our local community on the subject of mental health and help them understand what mental health is, how to recognise the signs and symptoms of a mental health problem, and how to open up conversations and provide advice to someone that is experiencing a mental health problem. This workshop will be free for people to attend and we hope this will encourage more conversations about mental health.
" There is certainly more awareness around mental health compared to a decade ago, but there is still a long way to go. This exciting project is a great way of ensuring that people in our local community (and beyond) have the option to develop a greater understanding of mental health and know that it can impact anyone from all walks of life.
This workshop also aims to provide people with the confidence to hold conversations around mental health and suicide, and challenge the stigma that continues to associate itself with mental health. The more people we can get to have conversations around mental health, the more comfortable those who are struggling in silence will feel to reach out to someone for help." - Michael Cunningham (Trustee of Kick Start FC)
Our goal is to encourage as many people as possible to attend one of our workshops and we have set ourselves a goal of 100 people in attendance by the end of 2025.
If you would like more information on our Mental Health Awareness Workshop or would be interested in attending, please contact us at kickstartfc@hotmail.com or follow our social media pages for date announcements.
