TESTIMONIALS
"My first session was pre-lockdown and I was a little anxious beforehand. I wanted to meet new people as I am relatively new to the local area. What I enjoy now is that it is a consistent social activity and all the guys who turn up are spot on. It's also a good opportunity to talk about mental health if I ever needed to speak out." - Oliver Ryan
"My first session was back in March time just before the lockdown period. I had seen a post advertising Kick Start FC on Facebook and thought I would give it a try. I have always enjoyed playing football and the guys who turn up are a good laugh I have enjoyed coming to the sessions. It’s also a great way to speak out if you have anything on your mind. I would totally recommend it." - Rob Yates

How do I talk about my mental health?
Putting your feelings into words is sometimes difficult. It’s perfectly normal to be worried that you might say the wrong thing or explain it badly. It’s also natural to feel anxious that your loved one or friend might think your mental health is worse than you might feel it is.
Try not to worry – talking about your mental health is incredibly important when it comes to getting the right support for you and with the right preparation the conversation can be easier than you think it might be. Here are a few tips on how to talk about your mental health.

KICK START FC MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WORKSHOP
Monday 15th December 2025
We are delighted to share that we will soon be launching our very own Kick Start FC Mental Health Awareness Workshop, created to support and empower individuals within our local community. This workshop has been designed to help people gain a stronger understanding of mental health, break down common misconceptions, and encourage more open and supportive conversations around emotional wellbeing.
During the workshop, attendees will learn what mental health really means and why it is just as important as physical health. We will explore how to recognise the early signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, the different factors that can affect someone's wellbeing, and practical ways to approach sensitive conversations with confidence. Participants will also receive guidance on how to offer meaningful support to someone struggling, as well as information on where to seek professional help if needed.
Our goal is to create a welcoming and safe environment where individuals feel comfortable to share, learn, and grow. Whether you have a personal interest in mental health, want to better support friends and family, or work with people in a community or professional setting, this workshop is a valuable opportunity to build awareness and understanding.
The workshop will be completely free to attend, as we believe that everyone should have access to mental health education and support. We hope that by opening this space to the community, we can encourage ongoing conversations, reduce stigma, and promote a culture where mental wellness is prioritised.
More information on dates, location, and registration will be shared soon on social media pages. We look forward to welcoming you and working together to create a more compassionate and well-informed community.
" There is no doubt that awareness of mental health has grown over the last decade, but we know there is still so much more to do. This project is a wonderful opportunity for people in our community (and beyond) to learn more about mental health and to understand that it can affect anyone, no matter their age, background, or life exerperiences.
Our work is all about helping people feel confident and comfortable when talking about mental health and suicide, and encouraging kinder, more open conversations. By normalising these discussions and challenge the stigma that still exists, we can create a community where no one feels they have to struggle alone. The more we talk, the easier it becomes for someone who is finding things difficult to reach out and ask for support " - Michael Cunningham (Founder of Kick Start FC)
