TESTIMONIALS
"My first session was pre-lockdown and I was a little anxious beforehand. I wanted to meet new people as I am relatively new to the local area. What I enjoy now is that it is a consistent social activity and all the guys who turn up are spot on. It's also a good opportunity to talk about mental health if I ever needed to speak out." - Oliver Ryan
"My first session was back in March time just before the lockdown period. I had seen a post advertising Kick Start FC on Facebook and thought I would give it a try. I have always enjoyed playing football and the guys who turn up are a good laugh I have enjoyed coming to the sessions. It’s also a great way to speak out if you have anything on your mind. I would totally recommend it." - Rob Yates

How do I talk about my mental health?
Putting your feelings into words is sometimes difficult. It’s perfectly normal to be worried that you might say the wrong thing or explain it badly. It’s also natural to feel anxious that your loved one or friend might think your mental health is worse than you might feel it is.
Try not to worry – talking about your mental health is incredibly important when it comes to getting the right support for you and with the right preparation the conversation can be easier than you think it might be. Here are a few tips on how to talk about your mental health.

HOME TACKLING THE MIND

Kick Start FC To Launch Mental Health Workshop For Community
As part of our growing Kick Start FC In The Community initiative, we are delighted to announce the upcoming launch of our very own Mental Health Awareness Workshop, designed to educate, empower, and support individuals across our local communities.
The workshop has been developed to help people gain a better understanding of mental health, challenge common misconceptions, and encourage more open, supportive conversations around emotional wellbeing. By providing accessible mental health education, we hope to equip individuals with the confidence and knowledge needed to support both themselves and others.

Mental health is something that affects us all, yet many people still feel unsure about how to recognise when someone may be struggling or how to start conversations about mental wellbeing.
Our workshop will explore what mental health really means and why it is just as important as physical health. Participants will learn how to identify some of the early signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, understand the factors that can influence wellbeing, and gain practical skills for approaching sensitive conversations with confidence and compassion.
The session will also provide guidance on how to offer meaningful support to someone experiencing difficulties, alongside information about where professional help and additional support can be accessed when needed.
Whether you have a personal interest in mental health, want to better support friends and family, or work within a community, voluntary, or professional setting, the workshop offers valuable knowledge that can help make a positive difference.

At Kick Start FC, we believe that education and open conversation play a vital role in improving mental wellbeing and reducing stigma.
Our aim is to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment where people feel comfortable learning, sharing experiences, and developing a greater understanding of mental health. By encouraging honest conversations and increasing awareness, we hope to help create communities where people feel more connected, supported, and able to seek help when they need it.
Importantly, the workshop will be completely free to attend, ensuring that mental health education remains accessible to everyone regardless of their circumstances.

Speaking about the new workshop, Kick Start FC Founder Michael Cunningham said:
"There is no doubt that awareness of mental health has grown over the last decade, but we know there is still so much more to do. This project is a wonderful opportunity for people in our community and beyond to learn more about mental health and to understand that it can affect anyone, regardless of their age, background, or life experiences.
Our work is all about helping people feel confident and comfortable when talking about mental health and suicide, while encouraging kinder, more open conversations. By normalising these discussions and challenging the stigma that still exists, we can create a community where no one feels they have to struggle alone. The more we talk, the easier it becomes for someone who is finding things difficult to reach out and ask for support."
Further details regarding workshop dates, venues, and registration will be announced soon through our website and social media channels.
We are incredibly excited to bring this new opportunity to the community and look forward to welcoming individuals who want to learn more about mental health, support others, and help create a more compassionate and informed society.
