TESTIMONIALS
"My first session was pre-lockdown and I was a little anxious beforehand. I wanted to meet new people as I am relatively new to the local area. What I enjoy now is that it is a consistent social activity and all the guys who turn up are spot on. It's also a good opportunity to talk about mental health if I ever needed to speak out." - Oliver Ryan
"My first session was back in March time just before the lockdown period. I had seen a post advertising Kick Start FC on Facebook and thought I would give it a try. I have always enjoyed playing football and the guys who turn up are a good laugh I have enjoyed coming to the sessions. It’s also a great way to speak out if you have anything on your mind. I would totally recommend it." - Rob Yates

How do I talk about my mental health?
Putting your feelings into words is sometimes difficult. It’s perfectly normal to be worried that you might say the wrong thing or explain it badly. It’s also natural to feel anxious that your loved one or friend might think your mental health is worse than you might feel it is.
Try not to worry – talking about your mental health is incredibly important when it comes to getting the right support for you and with the right preparation the conversation can be easier than you think it might be. Here are a few tips on how to talk about your mental health.

HOME TACKLING THE MIND

KICK START FC IN THE COMMUNITY
The Kick Start FC In The Community initiative aims to work with groups within the local community and provide them with opportunities to learn about mental health whilst engaging in conversations to eradicate stigma. Our incredible team put themselves forward to ensure that the community understand that there is mental health support available and to make sure that no one feels they need to struggle alone. By attending local engagements, creating projects and hosting fundraising events, our team are ever-present in the local community.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Our Kick Start FC In The Community team aim to attend local events to be able to engage with members of the general public to showcase our charity and to raise awareness of mental health.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Away from the football pitch we look to support our local community by creating projects that will ease symptoms of mental health challenges or to provide the opportunity to learn about mental health.

FUNDRAISING
Obtaining funding for mental health services is proving to be increasingly challenging, with thanks to our team we are able to conduct fundraising events such as quiz nights, charity walks, amongst other events to help us run our services for free.
MEET THE TEAM
Our 'In The Community' team is made up of volunteers that have lived-experience with mental health challenges and want to encourage others who are living with symptoms of poor mental health, mental ill health or social isolation to access support via our charity or to have conversations with those who are able to provide them adequate support.
Our team members are encouraged to attend events within the community and showcase how Kick Start FC has been supporting people over the past five years. The team also engage in community projects such as delivering half-term food packages to those who are living with financial struggles, delivering mental health awareness workshops, and generating income through fundraising events which allows our services to remain free to those who would like to access our services.

KICK START FC MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WORKSHOP
As part of our Kick Start FC In The Community initiative we have developed a Mental Health Awareness Workshop that is designed to help members of the community create a better understanding of mental health. Within this workshop delegates will develop the skills to identify the early warning signs of mental health problems, learn effective stress management tools, how to open up conversations and provide advice with someone presenting a mental health problem, and learn more about specific mental health conditions.
This workshop will run for approximately 3-hours, will be delivered online and in classrooms and encourages learning through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities. The Kick Start FC Mental Health Awareness Workshop is FREE for members of the community to attend. For more information on upcoming dates and times, please follow our social media pages.
