£820 Raised During March For Men's Mental Health

Thursday 31st March 2022

Throughout the month of March, members of the Kick Start FC community have been aiming to complete 84miles each by walking and cycling to raise awareness of men's mental health. It is important to raise awareness of men's mental health to try and tackle the stigma that comes with it. This was also used as an opportunity to raise funds for the efforts made and those who completed the fundraiser helped raising a whopping £820!

The money that has been raised will be used to cover the cost of placing people through the Mental Health First Aid course and developing multiple mental health first aiders within the local community. Mental Health First Aiders are a point of contact for people who are experiencing mental health issues or going through emotional stress. Mental Health First Aiders are valuable to providing early intervention help for someone who may be developing a mental health issues.

"Raising awareness on the subject of men's mental health is so important because many men keep their thoughts and feelings to themselves. They don't want to be seen as weak or be a burden to anyone. Some men just don't want to deal with the inevitable conversations that would come from talking about their mental health."

An average of 84 men take their own life on a weekly basis with 75% of suicides here in the UK being registered by males. Suicide is the biggest single killer of men aged 45 and under. These figures are alarming. Kick Start FC would like to thank everyone who participated in their March For Men's Mental Health fundraiser and encouraged people to talk about their mental health.

Later in the year Kick Start FC plan to do another walking fundraiser on a bigger scale to raise more awareness of mental health and to encourage people to talk.
